Trent Dillard, a Jackson County native attended Smoky Mountain High School from 1998 to 2001. During his 4 years at Smoky Mountain he was a two-sport athlete playing football and baseball. He was a three-year varsity football player and a three-year varsity baseball player. Dillard was a member of the 2000 WAC 3A Conference championship team, which was the first conference championship win since 1989. This team was also had the best record in Smoky Mountain baseball history with a record of 20-5.
Dillard was All-Conference in the 2000 and the 2001 seasons, which were his Junior and Senior year respectively. Dillard was also a member of the Asheville Citizen Times All Western North Carolina Team during his junior season in the year of 2000. Dillard was selected to be a member of the 2000 region 8 State games as a first baseman.
Dillard still holds the single season batting average record of .496 as well as the single season doubles record of 19 for Smoky Mountain baseball. He is also tied for the season single hits record of 38 hits. Dillard had a combined batting average of .491 between his junior and senior seasons.
He completed his playing career at Smoky Mountain with a batting average of .486. Dillard continued to be an active member of Smoky Mountain’s baseball team by coaching during the spring of 2011 and 2012.
